About Business for Shared Prosperity
Business for Shared Prosperity is a network of forward-thinking business owners, executives and investors committed to building enduring economic progress on a strong foundation of opportunity, equity and innovation. Business for Shared Prosperity supports public policies and business practices that broaden economic opportunity, reduce inequality, promote entrepreneurship and innovation, and renew our nation’s infrastructure for long-term success.
The United States is in a momentous period of challenge and possibility -- from our economy to healthcare to climate change. As we move through 2008 and beyond, our nation will be vigorously debating public policies critical to our future. Business groups will have powerful voices in these debates. Non-business policy advocates cannot speak credibly for business. If we are to achieve the policies needed to put our nation on the right track, then forward-thinking business people must be fully engaged.
Business for Shared Prosperity is building a network of thousands of diverse business owners, managers and investors in every state so we can win essential public policy changes now and in the future.
We are business leaders whose success is bound together with the wellbeing of our communities and country. We aim to grow our businesses and our nation based on “built to last” foundations. We manage local and global businesses that model how high safety, labor and environmental standards are not only socially responsible, but also highly productive and profitable. We are venture capitalists seeding companies on the leading edge of sustainable business. We are small and large manufacturers, farmers and ranchers. We run the small businesses that anchor our communities. We seek public policies that will help our employees, customers, suppliers and communities thrive, and assure enduring economic progress for our nation.
Business for Shared Prosperity
BSP engages our network members around specific proposals and policy debates. These include:
Business for a Fair Minimum Wage
BSP is the leader in organizing business support for raising the minimum wage — ranging from the CEOs of major corporations and the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce to small businesses in all 50 states — and moving it as quickly as possible to a living wage at the federal and state level. Our Business for a Fair Minimum Wage campaign has significantly shifted public debate, action and media coverage on minimum wage, providing a growing counter to the “It’s bad for business” refrain that once monopolized business voices about the minimum wage. Taxes and Investments to Retool America
BSP is organizing business support for fair and economically sound taxation at the state and national level. Taxpayer-funded investments are essential to maintaining and modernizing the infrastructure of energy, transportation, communications, research, education and public services undergirding innovation, productivity and sustainable economic development. We support a transparent tax system that raises adequate revenue for public services and infrastructure in a fair and balanced manner, and promotes entrepreneurship and job creation.
Guaranteed Affordable Healthcare
A growing number of business people recognize the broken nature of our healthcare system, including a rising number of uninsured, exorbitant costs and the lack of portability. Our Small Business Majority Affordable Healthcare Project is the leader in organizing small business support for guaranteed affordable healthcare at the state and federal level, and we are working to generate large business support.
